Jessica Pettit

Utilizing grant funding from the Alliance For Full Acceptance and the Wesley Mancini Foundation, in October 2010, the Trans* Committee invited Jessica Pettitt to UNC Charlotte to provide guidance and basic training for our faculty/staff and students. Jessica Pettitt is a leading consultant in issues of social justice and has a particular investment and training in working with the trans* community on college campuses. She provided two days of trainings and workshops for our campus community. Thanks to the generous grants from the Alliance For Full Acceptance and the Wesley Mancini Foundation, we were able to extend an invitation to other local Charlotte colleges and universities to participate. We had participants from Johnson & Wales University, Central Pedimont Community College, and Johnson C. Smith University.

The two days of consultant work was broken into workshops that focused on different departments or areas of focus (for example: Documents & Records, Health Care, Sports & Intramurals, etc).

We had representation from the following campus and community partners at these workshops:

  • Multicultural Resource Center
  • Student Activities (including Student Organizations)
  • Fraternity & Sorority Life
  • Housing & Residence Life
  • Recreational Services (including Intramurals)
  • Student Health Center
  • Counseling Center
  • Facilities Management
  • Student Union
  • Conferences, Reservations, and Events Services
  • Faculty from Philosophy, Women's & Gender Studies, Religious Studies, Biology, and more
  • Several Individual Students
  • Time Out Youth (Community Partner)
  • Charlotte Gender Alliance (Community Partner)
  • Carolina Transgender Society (Community Partner)
